    The Basics 

  • FIU took game one on day three of the Classic against Siena, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.  

  • The Panthers put up a four spot in the third inning to break the scoreless tie. Jessica Rivera (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) singled through the right side with the bases loaded and drove in two runs. After a throwing error by Siena, another run scored and Rivera ended up on third base. Kasandra Castle (Lake Worth, Fla./Palm Beach Central) hit a sacrifice fly shortly after to plate Rivera for FIU's fourth run of the game. FIU would pick up two more insurance runs in the fifth inning on RBI's by Venessa Gallegos and Araceli Peralta. 

  • Megan Kugelmann (Merritt Island, Fla./Cocoa Beach HS) picked up the win in five innings of work improving her record to 2-4. Kugelmann snapped a streak of not allowing a run in her last 16.2 innings pitched when Siena scored their first run of the game in the fourth inning.

    The Basics 

  • FIU lost the sequel against Michigan State by same score as yesterday, 2-0 on the final day of the Classic. 

  • The Panthers had a pair of golden opportunities in first the third and then the sixth inning with the bases loaded, but they could not convert.  

  • Michigan State took the lead on a two-run home run to left field in the fourth inning. That would be the first hit allowed by Shannon Saile. 

  • Saile pitched a complete game three-hitter. With both of MSU's runs coming on that home run in the fourth inning. She struck out eight batters in the loss. 
      
      
    Next up for FIU 
    The Panthers will head to Orlando, Florida next weekend to play in the Citrus Classic. Friday, FIU will face Troy in game one, followed by UC-Santa Barbara for game two.
