No. 11 FIU Beach Wins Fourth-Straight; Defeats No. 17 FAU, 3-2

The Basics
- The No. 11-ranked FIU beach volleyball team returned home to the friendly confines of the FIU Beach Volleyball courts and seemed to enjoy being back at its familiar surroundings, defeating No. 17 Florida Atlantic, 3-2, to remain unbeaten in its first contest with a Top 20 foe. The win improves the Panthers to 4-0 on the year and 1-0 in Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) play. The Owls drop to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in CCSA.
 
- FIU's three winning pairs each moved to 4-0 in 2017. The No. 1 pair of Federica Frasca/Margherita Bianchin won, 21-11, 21-18, Estefanie Bethancourt/Natalia Giron at the No. 4 spot won, 21-14, 21-11, and Erin Byrne/Mariana Dal Pozzo won 21-17, 21-19 at No.5.   
 
- The win over FAU marks the Panthers' fourth-straight victory which is just FIU's fifth winning streak of four matches or more (18 in 2015, 10 in 2017, nine in 2014, four in 2014) in the program's history.
 
- The Panthers continued its dominance over FAU, winning their 10th-straight match, and improving their all-time record against the Owls to 10-0.
 
- FIU will host one more home contest this season when Florida Gulf Coast visits campus on March 21. First serve is slated for 4 p.m. The Panthers will also host the sixth annual Surf 'N' Classic on South Beach (neutral site) at Lummus Park, March 30-31.

Up Next
Following today's dual match against FAU, FIU travels to Tallahassee, Florida, to take part in the Hampton Inn Capital-University Invitational, March 2-3. The Panthers begin play on March 2, against CCSA foe College of Charleston at 10:30 a.m. in their only match of the day. FIU will play two contests on March 3, against St. Petersburg College at 8:30 a.m. and then close out play for the weekend with No. 15 Stetson at 12:30 p.m.
