The Basics 

  • FIU fell to the McNeese Cowgirls on Wednesday night in Lake Charles, Louisiana, 9-5.
  • The Panthers were up by two runs twice during the game. FIU went up 4-2 in third and then 5-3 in the fourth, until the
  • Cowgirls put up four runs in the fourth inning and rallying for the win.
  • FIU got on the board in the second inning when Kayla Whitehead drove in Jessica Rivera on a fielder's choice to cut McNeese's lead to 2-1. In the same inning, Venessa Gallegos singled through the right side and scored Julia Gilbert to tie the game, 2-2.
  • Julia Gilbert hit her first home run of the season in the third inning to give FIU the lead, 4-2. Gilbert's two-run shot drove in Natalie Orcutt.
  • After the Cowgirls cut the FIU lead 4-3, Orcutt doubled down the left-field line scoring Tatyana Forbes to put FIU back on top. 5-3.
  • Allison Muraskin got the start for the Panthers on the mound but struggled in three and two-thirds innings. Muraskin allowed seven runs – five earned on four hits, while striking out four.

    The Panthers continue their Louisiana tour traveling to Lafayette to take on Louisiana Lafayette Thursday, March 15, 2018. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
