MIAMI (Apr.13,2018) – The FIU women's tennis team (13-2) defeated USF (11-10), 4-0, on Friday, April 13 at the FIU Tennis Courts.
FIU did not waste time and won the doubles portion of the match. The duo of
Maryna Veksler and
Ulyana Grib, currently No. 23 in the Oracle/ITA National Doubles Rankings, defeated USF's Nicole Dzenga and Vanja Klaric, 6-1. Seniors
Andrea Lazaro and
Nerma Caluk lost to the Bulls' Evelyn Tiron and Juliana Cardoso, 6-4, and
Sandra Bozinovic and
Mina Markovic topped Ana Roman and Alexandria Mjos, 6-4, clinching the doubles point.
After doubles play, FIU won three straight points in singles play. Lazaro, currently ranked No. 7 in the Oracle/ITA National Singles Rankings, defeated Klaric 6-3, 6-4. Grib won against Roman, 6-1, 6-2, improving her record to 10-2. Bozinovic clinched the match for the Panthers defeating Tiron, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1, improving her record to 10-3 in dual matches.
The Panthers will next face FAU (10-6) on Sunday, April, 15. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the FIU Tennis Courts, Miami.
Sunday will mark Senior Day for the Panthers.
Mina Markovic,
Nerma Caluk and
Andrea Lazaro who will be playing in the final home contest of their careers, will be honored prior to the start of the match.
