FIU Women’s tennis Signs Komola Umarova

MIAMI (Apr. 17, 2018) – FIU women's tennis head coach Katarina Petrovic, announced on Tuesday the signing of Komola Umarova, a native of Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Umarova is currently ranked at No. 809 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA)singles ranking. She was as high as No.743 position in September, 2017. She is also ranked in the WTA doubles ranking and holds the No. 731 position in the world.
 
Umarova competed in different WTA tournaments. In singles play, she reached the second round in the main draw of tournaments in Fergana and Andijan, both in Uzbekistan. She also achieved semifinals in a WTA tournament in Shymkent, Kazakistan. In doubles, Umarova reached two semifinals, in Shymkent, Kazakhstan and Andijan. 
Umarova was also a National Fed Cup Representative for Uzbekistan in 2017 and recorded two wins in singles and double matches against Turmenistan back in July 2017. 

"Komola competed on the Fed Cup team for Uzbekistan and brings a lot of experience to our program since she represented her country in team events" said FIU head coach Petrovic. "We are extremely excited, and we expect her to contribute right away in the singles and doubles line up. We are confident that Komola will excel in the classroom as well as on the courts."
