MIAMI, Florida (Apr. 6, 2018) – The FIU women's tennis team defeated Middle Tennessee (14-5), 4-1, on Friday, April 6, in Murfreesboro, Middle Tennesse.
The Panthers, ranked No. 41 in the latest Oracle/ITA team ranking, improved their record to 11-2 this season.
Wins in doubles action by
Andrea Lazaro and
Nerma Caluk for the first time at position No.1 (6-4 over MTSU's Kim Kermet and Luisa Zirilli) and No. 21
Ulyana Grib and
Maryna Veksler (6-1 over Lee Barnard and Zani Barnard) gave FIU a 1-0 lead.
In singles play,
Mina Markovic lost the first singles point against MTSU's Luisa Zirilli, 7-6, 6-2.
Sandra Bozinovic won against MTSU's Kim Kermet 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead. Lazaro, currently at No. 5 in the latest Oracle/ITA Single Rankings downed Costanza Magazzini 6-2, 6-7, 6-0 and
Nerma Caluk clinched the match for the Panthers, defeating Lidia Burrows 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
FIU will play next on Sunday, April 8 against Western Kentucky. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
