Duo of Santiago Patino and Joris Ahlinvi record their first goals of the season in setback

Game Details

FIU (0-3-0), Stetson (1-2-0)
Friday, Aug. 31, 2018 | 7 p.m.
Miami, Florida | FIU Soccer Stadium

The Basics
- The FIU men's soccer team got two goals from their two preseason Hermann Trophy candidates, Santiago Patino (Orlando, Fla./Freedom) and Joris Ahlinvi (Bordeaux, France), however that wasn't enough as the Panthers dropped their home-opener to Stetson, 3-2, in front of a raucous crowd at the FIU Soccer Stadium Friday night. FIU drops to 0-3 on the year while the Hatters improve to 1-2.

- The loss snapped FIU's 12-match home unbeaten streak that dated back to the 2016 campaign. The Panthers' last loss at home was a 4-1 setback to No. 12 Florida Gulf Coast on Oct. 4, 2016.

- Patino got the Panthers on the board first with a goal in the 20' minute, his first of the season, when he took a pass from Matias Barraza (Miami, Florida/Doral Academy) and beat Stetson goalkeeper, Braeden Luna. FIU eventually took its first lead of the season into the locker room at the break, 1-0.

- The Hatters, however, took control netting two goals in a five-minute stretch to start the second half. Daniel O'Brien tied the match at one-apiece with a goal in the 53' minute, and then Elvin Menayese scored the first of his two markers on the night in the 58' minute. Menayese struck again to give the Hatters some insurance in the 88' minute.

- Ahlinvi cut the match to one, 3-2 – giving the Panthers some hope – off a pass from Patino in the 89' minute, but it was to little to late.

- FIU goalkeeper, Hugo Fauroux (Cannes, France), made three saves on the night.

- Despite the loss, the Panthers played the aggressor outshooting Stetson 15-7 on the night.
