The Basics
- Joris Ahlinvi (Bordeaux, France) scored both of FIU's goals on Friday, including the game-winner in the 109' minute, to lead the Panthers to a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime win over UAB in a Conference USA match at the FIU Soccer Stadium. Ahlinvi, one of two preseason MAC Hermann Trophy Award candidates on the FIU roster, bent his own corner kick in and beat UAB goalkeeper Seth Torman to end the contest with 23 seconds remaining. The win improves FIU to 2-0 in C-USA play and 2-4 on the year. The Blazers are 1-5 overall and 0-2 in C-USA action.

- DeAndre Robinson started the scoring off with a laser shot from 20 yards out beating Daniel Gagliardi (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas), who got his first start of the season, in the 58' minute. Ahlinvi tied the match up at one-all, just 13 minutes later when he took a pass from Caleb Franke (Orlando, Florida/Olympia) and headed a shot past UAB keeper Seth Torman in the 71' minute of play.

- Following Ahlinvi's goal, the Panthers found themselves knocking on the door of taking the lead but could not find the back of the net. In the 82' minute, Inigo Sagarduy (Miami, Florida/Belen Jesuit) fired a shot that Torman needed to make a spectacular diving save on, and then in the 83' minute Santiago Patino (Orlando, Florida/Freedom) took a pass from Franke, who was looking for his second assist of the night, and sent a shot from 10 yards out only to have Torman come out of net to block the offering.

- Each team got off one-shot apiece in the first overtime period, however the biggest impact on the match could have come in the 99' minute of play when Jules Desportes (Evreux, France) was issued his second yellow card of the night forcing the Panthers to play a man down for the remainder of the contest.

- FIU controlled the match in the second overtime period recording three of the four total shots taken by both sides. The Panthers had two corner kicks in the final minute, both taken by Ahlinvi. The first was punched out of bounds by Torman resulting in a corner on the next play, which led to Ahlinvi's goal seconds later in which he bent the shot to the left, into a crowd, and past Torman.

- Gagliardi earned his first win of the season, while seeing his first action of 2018. He recorded eight saves on the night.

- Ahlinvi led the way with a match high five shots, including three on goal. Andrew Booth (Tamarac, Florida/University) had four shots, and Patino three, with three coming on goal.
