FIU sweeps Marshall 3-0 to start C-USA play with two straight wins

FIU swept Marshall, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center to begin Conference USA play with two straight wins.

The Panthers (9-5, 2-0 Conference USA), who blanked UAB Friday night, defeated the Thundering Herd (7-9, 0-2 C-USA) 25-20, 25-21, 25-22.

Down 20-18 in the first set, FIU scored the final seven points to rally past Marshall. Chelsea Hudson's kill started the run of seven straight points. Two kills by Margherita Bianchin and two service aces by Carly Sosnowski helped with the comeback.

FIU snapped a 21-21 tie in the second set by winning the final four points to take the set. In another tightly-contested set, the Panthers won the final three points of the third set to take the match.

Bianchin had a match-high 17 kills with seven digs and two service aces.

Sidney Henderson had seven kills while Hudson had six kills. Henderson and Hudson each led FIU with three blocks.

Abbie Hughes had a match-high 33 assists and a match-high three service aces.

Lina Bernier and Ronja Klinger were in double-digit digs for the Panthers. Bernier had a team-high 19 digs while Klinger had 11 digs.

Up next FIU hosts Florida Atlantic Friday night from the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. The first serve between the Panthers and Owls is at 7 p.m.
