MIAMI - (Sept. 28, 2018) – The FIU women's soccer team fell in it's homestand opener on Friday night, as Southern Miss earned a victory following the 3-0 decision.
Southern Miss improves to 8-2-0 (2-1, C-USA), while FIU falls to 0-12-0 (0-4, C-USA) on the season.
The Golden Eagles jumped out early on Friday, scoring in the fourth minute on a Miah Zuazua goal, before adding their second score in the 30th minute on a Monica Maldonaldo goal.
USM led in shots 9-3 at the break, but FIU came out firing in the second half as the Panthers outshot the Golden Eagles in the final 45 minutes, 9-6.
USM scored its final goal of the night in the 62nd minute, after Jenny Caracheo scored on a Zuazua pass.
FIU was led by Tamia Roberts and Kaydeen Jack offensively, with two shots each directed toward the USM keeper. Between the posts for the Panthers, Christina Velazquez collected four saves on the night.
