Berry's Two Goals Secure Draw With LA Tech

Panthers earn their first result of the season with the draw


MIAMI (Sept. 30, 2018) – The FIU women's soccer team played to a dramatic 2-2 draw with LA Tech on Sunday afternoon, capping the weekend on a high note for the Panthers. 

LA Tech sits at 9-4-1 (2-1-1, C-USA), while FIU is now 0-12-1 (0-4-1, C-USA) on the season following Sunday's result.

Scoring began on Sunday after Nomvula Kgoale scored in the 29th minute to give the Lady Techsters the early 1-0 lead.

The second half saw a flurry of activity starting with Rayquel Berry's first career goal in the 70th minute, before LT's Mylene Roy-Ouellet scored to regain the lead in the 75th minute. Berry answered quickly with her second score of the afternoon and the match's final goal in the 77th minute.

Berry joins teammate Kaydeen Jack as the only two Panthers to score two goals in a single match this season. Jack accomplished this feat on Sept. 9 at SMU.

Christina Velazquez made seven saves in her 110 minutes of work, holding the Bulldogs to just two goals and aiding in the draw.

UP NEXT
FIU heads to Kentucky on Friday to take on WKU. 7 p.m. ET is the scheduled start time for the match.
