The Basics
- Santiago Patino (Orlando, Florida/Freedom) recorded his third multi-goal match of the season – and his second-straight -with two scores to lead the FIU men's soccer team to a 4-2 win over New Mexico on Saturday afternoon at the UNM Soccer Complex in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The win marks the Panthers' first-ever road win at New Mexico, while also extending FIU's regular season Conference USA unbeaten streak to 16 matches.

- Patino got the scoring started off in the 16' minute after he was taken down in the box and awarded a penalty kick, FIU's first of the season. Patino calmly stepped to the spot and beat New Mexico goalkeeper, Ford Parker, to put the Panthers up 1-0. The Lobos, however, retaliated quickly when Simon Spangenberg took a pass and beat FIU net minder, Daniel Gagliardi (Plantation, Florida/St. Thomas Aquinas), who came out to play the ball. Spangenberg placed the ball in the back of the goal from the left side to the far right side to even the match at 1-1.

- Matt Puig  put the Lobos up, 2-1, 11 minutes later with a goal in the 29' minute, off a set piece, when Billy Jones found his Lobo teammate to beat Gagliardi. That was the last goal of the half as both teams headed into the intermission tied in shots, 7-7, while New Mexico held a slight 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.

- The Panthers wasted no time getting on the board in the second half, when Andrew Booth (Tamarac, Florida/University) took a pass from Xavi Olmos Ferris (Valencia, Spain), just 56 seconds into the second stanza, and headed it past Parker. It was Booth's second goal in as many matches and his seventh point in the past two outings. For Ferris it marked his first career assist wth the Panthers. Then, three minutes later, Talla Faye (Dakar, Senegal) logged his first career goal to put the Panthers back on top, 3-2, off a deflection from a Parker save in the 49' minute.

- Patino gave the Panthers an insurance goal, and put the contest away, with a goal in the 86' minute off a pass from Joris Ahlinvi (Bordeaux, France). Patino's two goals on the day give him eight on the year.

- Gagliardi finished the match with seven saves, while improving to 3-0 on the year.

Quotable
"Great road conference win today for the team against a good opponent in New Mexico. The guys responded after going down 2-1, another experience for our team continuing to grow together. Now we focus our attention to FGCU." - FIU Head Coach Kevin Nylen
