MIAMI – FIU indoor and beach volleyball Head Coach
Rita Buck-Crockett announced the signing of Shannon Gormally (Union, Kentucky/Notre Dame Academy) to a National Letter of Intent during the recent signing period.
Gormally, a hybrid player, will play both indoor and beach volleyball for the Panthers when she arrives on campus for the 2019-20 academic year.
"Shannon is a very unique athlete that will make an immediate impact on both the indoor and beach teams," said Buck-Crockett. "We are very happy to have a hybrid (player) of her caliber."
During her three years of varsity volleyball at Notre Dame, Gormally recorded 557 kills, 139 digs and 114 blocks for the Pandas. As a senior, the 5-foot-10 outside hitter was named Honorable Mention All-State by the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association and earned the Notre Dame Academy Coaches Award. As a sophomore she was named to the District 35 All-Tournament team. She was also a four-time member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Phenom List (2015-18).
Gormally is a relative newcomer to the beach volleyball world, however, is expected to make a smooth transition. She was tabbed the Junior Volleyball Association (JVA) Beach Volleyball Watch List.
