BOCA RATON, Florida (Jan. 26, 2019) – Despite a career-best day from freshman
Ce'Nara Skanes, the FIU women's basketball team fell to Florida Atlantic 77-55 on Saturday to begin a three-game road swing.
With the loss, FIU falls to 3-17 overall and 0-7 in C-USA play, while FAU earned its first league win of the year and moved its record to 4-16 and 1-6 overall.
FIU was led by
Ce'Nara Skanes who posted her fourth double-double of the season. Skanes also earned a career-high 23 points to go along with her 12 rebounds on the afternoon. FAU's Danneal Ford scored 22 points and Juliette Gauthier posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Owls.
FAU took the first quarter by just three points with a 10-7 advantage. Coming into the second quarter, the Panthers outscored the Owls 23-19 and took a 30-29 lead into the locker room. FAU came out strong to open the third quarter, outscoring the Panthers 18-9 in order to take back the lead. The Owls posted 30 points in the final quarter to stretch their lead and leave the final margin at 77-55.
