MIAMI (Jan. 9, 2019) – Conference USA announced Wednesday that freshman
Maha Gouda has been named Diver of The Week.
The honor is no surprise to the standout rookie who has now earned the superlative for the fourth time this season.
"Maha Knows what she wants to accomplish. she is determined to be the vest best she can be. She understands the team culture and happily representing the Panthers," head diving coach
Rio Ramirez said.
The recognition follows her stellar performance at the 2019 FIU Sprint Invite on Jan. 5, where she swept first place finishes from both the one and three-meter springboards.
She picked up a personal best and conference best from the one-meter when she landed a score of 328.40 which put her in the top spot. The three-meter title was secured after she posted a score of 325.95.
"She is driven, with a purpose and a vision. I am impressed with how professional she is in practice and how she steps up the game in competition." Ramirez said.
Prior to the 2019 Sprint Invite, Gouda made an appearance at the National Championship in her hometown, Egypt. She won a gold medal from the platform and qualified for the 18th World Championship.
The Panthers officially open on the spring season when they host Central Connecticut State in a dual-meet on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m.
