MIAMI (Oct. 17, 2019) - The FIU women's soccer team dropped a conference match against Middle Tennessee on Thursday evening, as the Panthers fell by a score of 3-1 on the road.
FIU now falls to 2-12 on the season and 0-7 in Conference USA, while the Blue Raiders improve to 6-8-1 with a 3-3-1 record in conference play.
The first half saw MT go up by a score of 1-0 when Hanna Tillett converted a successful penalty kick attempt in the 16th minute to give the Blue Raiders an early lead. FIU fired away two shots in the first 45 minutes but was unable to equalize the score before the break.
Rayquel Berry contributed one shot-on-goal in the opening period for FIU.
Shortly after the intermission, the Blue Raiders added their second penalty kick goal of the night, as Peyton DePriest scored to put MT up 2-0 over FIU. The Panthers seemed to be clawing back into the match in the 80th minute when
Olivia Sandahl sent a corner kick into the box for
Ellen Halseth, who finished the play with a header into the net. With the score at 2-1, the Panthers were thinking of a late comeback attempt, but MT countered quickly with a goal in the 82nd minute to extend the lead to 3-1 and ruin FIU's late hopes.
Halseth scored her fourth goal of 2019 and is now tied with Berry for the team lead. Sandahl recorded her first assist of the season. Berry logged three shots-on-goal in the match and leads FIU with 16 this year.
Ashley Adams, Sandahl, and Berry all logged a full 90 minutes in the match.
