MIAMI (Oct. 25, 2019) - The FIU women's soccer team came up short in their home match on Friday evening, as the Panthers fell to Rice by a score of 4-0 on Senior Night.
The Panthers' record now falls to 2-13 on the season and 0-8 in Conference USA, while the Owls improve to 9-4-2 with a 6-0-2 record in conference play.
FIU honored five seniors before the match as
Amanda Grifol,
Ashley Adams,
Amira Griffin,
Jasmin Hilliard, and
Kristin Telford were all saluted in front of the home crowd.
Rice led 3-0 after the first half, as the Owls saw scores from Louise Stephens, Delaney
Shultz, and Shiloh Miller. The Panthers recorded one shot attempt in the first half, coming off the foot of
Ashley Adams.
In the second half Rice was able to add on another score, as FIU did its best to stave off the Owls' attack, but fell eventually to a conference foe at FIU Soccer Stadium.
Rayquel Berry led FIU with one shot on-goal, while Ellen
Halseth and
Ashley Adams also contributed a shot attempt each.
Christina Velazquez recorded four saves in the match for FIU. Olivia
Sandahl,
Sierra Moss, and Adams all logged a full 90 minutes.
UP NEXT
The Panthers are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they
wrap up a two-game home series against North Texas. Kickoff against the Mean Green is set for 1 p.m. ET from FIU Soccer Stadium.
