No. 11 FIU Comes Back for 2-2 Draw Against USF

The Panthers came roaring back against the Bulls with two goals in two minutes

TAMPA, Florida (Oct. 22, 2019) - The No. 11 ranked FIU men's soccer team came back from a two-goal deficit late in the match against USF on Tuesday evening, as the Panthers went on to earn a 2-2 draw versus the Bulls in double overtime.

FIU remains undefeated and now stands at 9-0-5 on the season, while USF's record shifts to 8-4-1.

Trailing by a score of 2-0 with less than 15 minutes remaining in the match, the Panthers showed resiliency once again and came roaring back with two goals in as many minutes.

Inigo Sagarduy got the FIU offense into a rhythm in the 78th minute when he sent a cross into the box for freshman Andoni Garrogerricaechebarria, who buried his first goal as a Panther and cut the Panthers' deficit to 2-1. Moments later in the 79th minute, Sagarduy served up another great ball from a corner kick and found Nick O'Callaghan for a score, as the Panthers tied the match at 2-2 against USF.

FIU played overtime minutes for the sixth time this season, looking for a chance to gain its second golden-goal victory of 2019. The Panthers and Bulls traded one shot-on-goal each in the sudden death periods, but neither squad was able to find the back of the net as time expired with the score knotted up.

Sagarduy brings his 2019 assist total up to six and now leads the team in the category. Garrogerricaechebarria notched the first points of his FIU career, while O'Callaghan logged his first goal of the season. Daniel Gagliardi recorded seven saves in the match and now has 59 total this year.
