Panthers Sink Vikings on the Road

FIU dominated in 107-61 victory at Cleveland State.

CLEVELAND (Nov. 19, 2019) – The FIU men's basketball team faced Cleveland State at the Wolstein Center in the opening round of the Battle for the Capital Tournament on Tuesday. The Panthers took down the Vikings in dominant fashion, recording a 107-61 victory on the road.

With the victory, FIU improved to 2-2 on the season while CSU dropped to 1-4 on the season with the loss.

In the first half, the Panthers began the contest on a 31-6 run over the course of the opening 10 minutes. The team shot 53.8% from the field and 47.6% from three to hold the 56-22 advantage as the team went to the locker room. 

Out of the break, the offense remained fiery, closing out the game shooting 53.4% overall from the field and 52.8% from behind-the-arc in the 107-61 win over the Vikings. The team drained 19 threes and posted 52 rebounds in the victory.

Osasumwen Osaghae recorded the Panthers' first double-double this season, logging 13 points and 10 rebounds in just 15 minutes played. Devon Andrews led all players with 16 points, shooting 7-12 from the field. Eric Lovett notched 14 points off the bench, and Cameron Corcoran tallied 12 points, shooting 4-6 from the three-point line.

The Panthers continue the Battle for the Capital tournament with games in Washington DC at the New Entertainment & Sports Arena. Tip-off from the contest against Eastern Kentucky on Friday, Nov. 22, is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET.
