WASHINGTON D.C. (Nov. 23, 2019) - The FIU men's basketball team closed out the Battle for the Capital Tournament with a 66-63 loss to UNC Wilmington at the New Entertainment & Sports Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The victory elevated UNCW to 4-3 for the year while FIU dropped to 3-3.
In the first half, the Panthers went 13-33 from the field and 5-14 from behind the arc. The team headed to the locker room with the score tied 33-33, and
Isaiah Banks led the squad with 10 points while
Osasumwen Osaghae posted a team-best seven rebounds.
The Panthers shot just 31% from the field in the second half and went 9-14 from the foul line. The team closed out the contest outscoring the opposition 18-13 off fast-break opportunities, but the Seahawks held the 36-26 advantage in the paint and defeated FIU 66-63.
Banks finished the contest with 15 points to lead all FIU players. Osaghae closed out the loss with 11 rebounds, eight points and three blocks.
UP NEXT
Following the tournament, the Panthers return to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center for a three-game homestand, beginning with a contest against Keiser on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Tip-off slated for 7 p.m. ET.
