MIAMI (Nov. 29, 2019) – The FIU women's basketball team fell 58-49 to the Oakland Grizzlies on Friday afternoon, as the Panthers wrapped up its opening game of the FIU Thanksgiving Classic.
 
The Panthers are now 1-4 on the season, while Oakland improves to 3-3.
 
FIU was led by Jiselle Thomas who collected 24 points and nine rebounds on the afternoon, marking her third game with 20 or more points this season. Oakland's Jalisha Terry posted 13 points on the afternoon.
 
The first game of the FIU Thanksgiving classic began very tight, as FIU and Oakland stayed within a field goal of each other for most of the first quarter before the Grizzlies used a 7-2 run to take a 16-11 lead into the second quarter. Oakland went on to outscore the Panthers 20-10 to end the first half and take a 36-21 advantage.

The Grizzlies posted a 14-8 third quarter to push their lead coming out of the locker room. FIU would not go down without a fight however, as the Blue & Gold posted a 20-point fourth quarter, but the effort would not be enough as FIU fell 58-49.
