FIU Grinds Out Win Against UNH

The Panthers took down New Hampshire 70-69 to remain undefeated at home this season.

MIAMI (Nov. 30, 2019) – The FIU men's basketball team battled New Hampshire at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Saturday night. The Panthers topped to the Wildcats 70-69 to remain undefeated at home this season

With the win, FIU moves to 5-3 for the year while UNH dropped to 4-4 with the loss.

In the opening half, the Panthers shot 39.4% from the field and forced nine turnovers to hold the 35-27 advantage. Individually, Devon Andrews was 5-for-9 with 12 points to the lead FIU. The senior also logged a squad-best five rebounds in the opening period.

Coming out of the locker room, FIU shot 46.4% from the field but New Hampshire went 17-32 in the second half, keeping the game close. With the game tied, Antonio Daye, Jr. drove to the basket and got fouled on the play with 1.4 seconds left on the clock. The sophomore went 1-for-2 from the line, scoring the go-ahead bucket to give the Panthers the 70-69 victory.

Andrews closed out the contest with a team-best 21 points and eight rebounds. Daye Jr. logged 14 points while also recording three steals and three assists. Eric Lovett scored eight points off the bench and the junior nailed a clutch three with 42.0 seconds left to tie the contest 69-69.

UP NEXT
The Panthers look to stay unbeaten at home when the team hosts Florida Gulf Coast for a midweek contest on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Tip-off from the Ocean Bank Convocation Center is slated for 7 p.m.
