MIAMI (Dec. 20, 2019) –The FIU women's basketball team fell to Austin Peay 58-56 to close out the FIU Holiday Hoops Showdown on Friday afternoon.
The Panthers fall to 3-7 while Austin Peay improves to 8-2 on the season.
FIU was led by
Jiselle Thomas who posted 14 points for the Panthers, while
Chelsea Guimaraes grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds. APSU's Shay-Lee Kirby led her team with 15 points on the afternoon.
APSU ouscored FIU in the second quarter and took a 33-28 advantage into halftime. The Panthers bounced back out of the locker room and recaptured the lead at 43-41, but were edged out by the Governors in the final period as APSU won a nail-bitter, 58-56.
UP NEXT
FIU will close out 2019 and a three-game homestand on Sunday, Dec. 29 as the Panthers welcome Brown to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. ET.
