Panthers Top Hatters on the Road

FIU took down Stetson 83-67 on Sunday

DELAND, Florida (Dec. 22, 2019) – The FIU men's basketball team faced Stetson at the J. Ollie Edmunds Center on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers took down the Hatters 83-67, winning their seventh-straight game.

With the victory, FIU moved to 9-3 for the season. Stetson dropped to 5-9 with the loss.

In the opening half, the Panthers shot 46.4% from the field and 42.9% from behind-the-arc while holding Stetson to just 29.4% shooting. FIU held the Hatters scoreless from three and led 42-24 with the teams headed to the locker room. Devon Andrews paced the FIU squad with 10 points in the first period, followed by Antonio Daye, Jr. and Eric Lovett, who posted nine points each.

Coming out of the break, FIU remained in control, shooting 41.9% from the field in the second half. Despite being outscored 43-41 in the closing period, the Panthers did not allow a basket from beyond-the-arc, and FIU came away with the 83-67 victory.

Individually, Trejon Jacob closed out the win with 20 points and two steals. Osasumwen Osaghae tied his career-best for blocked shots, notching eight swats against the Hatters.

UP NEXT
The Panthers head north to battle Minnesota on Saturday, Dec. 28, in the team's final game of 2019. Tipoff from Williams Arena is slated for 4 p.m. ET.

ALUMNI GAME
The FIU men's basketball program welcomes back its alumni to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Saturday, Jan. 18, for the Panthers' game against Middle Tennessee. Tipoff from the Conference USA clash is set for 7 p.m. ET. The 2019-2020 campaign marks the 25th anniversary of the banner season, which resulted in the program's first NCAA appearance.
