DURHAM, North Carolina (Dec. 6, 2019) –The FIU women's basketball team picked up a 59-58 victory in a thrilling overtime contest on Friday afternoon, as the Panthers downed North Carolina Central on the road.
FIU trailed by a point with under 20 seconds remaining in regulation, but
Jiselle Thomas tied the game at the charity stripe to force overtime. The Panthers outscored the Eagles 5-4 to win in overtime. With the victory, FIU improves to 2-5 overall while the Eagles fall to 1-7.
FIU was led by
Fujika Nimmo who posted 22 points on the afternoon, marking her first 20-point game of the season. NCCU's Khadija Demry and Zaria Atkins led the Eagles with eight points each.
The Panthers took a 24-22 lead into the locker room, before the Eagles came back to trim the deficit and eventually take the lead late in the game. After Thomas sent the game into overtime at the free throw line, Nimmo and
Chelsea Guimaraes scored the only two baskets needed to lift the Panthers past the Eagles in overtime.
