PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida (Feb. 22, 2019) - FIU baseball, led by Logan Allen, beat South Dakota State by a score of 4-1 to open the weekend at the Snowbird Baseball Classic.

Allen earned his first win of the season with a dominate performance going six shutout innings while only giving up two hits and striking out 10 Jackrabbits. SDSU's Brady Stover took the loss.
 
Once again, Lorenzo Hampton, Jr. paced the FIU bats with a 2-for-3 day including a triple and three runs scored. Seth Cannady knocked in two Panthers to help FIU to it's third-straight win. Derek Cartaya helped the cause with two base knocks of his own.
 
The Panthers struck first in the fourth inning when Hampton tripled off the left field wall. He was knocked in one batter latter when Adan Fernandez roped one to left center. Jose Garcia scored in the sixth when SDSU mishandled a Fernandez sac bunt. Hampton later scored in the inning on a Cannady sac fly. The duo of Cannady and Hampton linked up aging in the eighth inning on a Cannady single that scored Hampton.  
 
SDSU made it interesting in the top of the ninth, but only managed to score once before Angel Tiburcio slammed the door shut for his first career save.

The Panthers and the Jackrabbits are back it on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. to close out the FIU portion of the Snowbird Baseball Classic.
