PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida (Feb. 23, 2019) – The FIU baseball team fell in a nail bitter to South Dakota State, 4-3, on Saturday to close out it's portion of the Snowbird Baseball Classic.
With the loss, FIU drops to 3-3 on the year. SDSU improves to 3-2 for the year.
Jackrabbit reliver Bret Barnett earned the win after pitching two innings.
Christian Santana was handed the loss, after giving up two runs in two innings of work. FIU starter
Nick MacDonald got a no decision following his two run, three hit, six inning performance. The junior righty also struck out seven on Saturday.
FIU opened the scoring in the third with a
Derek Cartaya two-run RBI double that scored
John Rodriguez and
Juan Teixeira. SDSU answered with a run in the third and in the fourth to tie the game.
The Jackrabbits took the lead by adding runs in the seventh and eight before
Adan Fernandez homered to dead center with one out in the ninth to cut the score to 4-3.
UP NEXT
FIU returns home on Wednesday to play Miami. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at FIU Baseball Stadium and will be streamed on ESPN+.
