AUBURN, Alabama (March 13, 2019) - FIU diver and freshman standout
Maha Gouda punched her second ticket to the NCAA Championships, after posting a stellar day on the platform Wednesday at the NCAA Dive Zones.
Gouda finished the preliminary rounds with a score of 292.75 and went on to finish first at the finals competition with a score of 585.10.
"This was another great performance from Maha," Head Diving Coach
Rio Ramirez said. "She keeps proving that she is a warrior."
The Alexandria, Egypt native secured her first NCAA postseason ticket on Tuesday, after dominating on the 1-meter.Â
"I am happy with how consistently and calm she dived," Ramirez said. "She practiced like she competed and that is a game-changer and a good example to follow for the rest of the team."
For the diving portion of the NCAAs, the Dive Zones mark the last chance for student-athletes to qualify for the big dance. Gouda will join swimmer and fellow Panther Naomi Rule at the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas later this month.Â
"Even though the rest of the divers did not have a great meet, I know in my heart that they have improved so much throughout the season," Ramirez said. "They're in good spirits and have a desire to start back on our next chapter as soon as they finish their well-deserved vacation."
