MIAMI (March 19, 2019) – After an impressive start to the season, the FIU women's tennis pair of
Basak Akbas and
Kamila Umarova rank No. 64 in the latest Oracle/ITA Doubles Rankings released on Tuesday.
The ranking for the freshman pair is its first of the season, with Akbas and Umarova earning a 6-1 record overall and 4-1 mark in dual matches.
"Akbas and Umarova are raising their level of play at the right time," Head Coach
Katarina Petrovic said. "I hope they continue to improve and gather experience for big things to come in the future."
This is the second time Umarova has appeared in the Oracle/ITA Doubles Rankings, with the freshman checking in at No. 58 with senior and former doubles partner
Maryna Veksler on Feb. 6.
Umarova's impressive consistency in both singles and doubles play has been an advantage for the young squad so far.
"Kamila is young, but she has the right attitude and is very focused. We see it paying off for her on the court every day," Petrovic said.
The Panthers currently own a nine-match winning streak, while holding a 10-4 record overall and perfect 4-0 mark in C-USA action.
