MIAMI (March 24, 2019) – The FIU baseball team fell in Sunday's matinee matchup with WKU 15-1 in seven innings.
The Panthers' record goes to 11-12 (2-4 C-USA), while WKU improves to 11-11 (5-1 C-USA) in 2019.
WKU's Reece Calvert pitched a complete game for the win.
Christian Santana was given the loss after surrendering eight runs in four innings of work.
Lorenzo Hampton, Jr. pushed his team-leading hit total to 28 with a 2-for-2 effort on Sunday. The pair of
Juan Teixeira and
Derek Cartaya each had a base knock.
The Hilltoppers scored two in the opening frame before Teixeira singled to lead off the home half of the home first. Teixeira advanced to second on a
Chris Williams SAC bunt and came around to score on Hampton's first hit of the day to bring the score to 2-1 in favor of the Hilltoppers.
From there WKU scored three in second, three in the fourth, two in the sixth and five in the seventh to force the seven-inning mercy rule and win 15-1.
UP NEXT
FIU will play a home-and-home series with Florida Gulf Coast on March 26th in Fort Meyers and March 27th in Miami before embarking on the longest road trip of the season.
