FORT MYERS (March 26, 2019) – In the opening game of a home-and-home series with Florida Gulf Coast, the FIU baseball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Eagles.
The Panthers' record sits at 11-13 (2-4 C-USA), while FGCU moves to 15-8 (1-2 ASUN) on the year.
FGCU's Tyler Shuck was given the win for his performance on Tuesday night.
Angel Tiburcio was handed the loss after only allowing one unearned run over three innings of work to start the game.
Even in a stumble on Tuesday night there were still firsts to be had. Freshman
Nathan Housen got his first-career hit with a single to left field in his first-career start at the DH spot. Fellow Panther
Rhett Rutledge also recorded his first hit in a Panther uniform, after a single down the left field line in the seventh.
FGCU scored on a groundout in the first before plating a pair of runs on a single and an error in the fourth to make it 3-0. That margin would prove to be enough, as Shuck went 6.2 innings before giving way to the Eagles' bullpen. Hunter McGarry was awarded the save for the Eagles after preserving the 3-0 victory in the ninth.
