BOCA RATON, Florida (March 29, 2019) – The FIU baseball team dropped the weekend opener to FAU on Friday night by a score of 7-1.
The Panthers' record moves to 11-15 (2-5 C-USA), while FAU improves to 17-9 (6-1 CUSA) for the season.
Blake Sanderson recorded the victory for the Owls.
Logan Allen suffered the loss after tossing six innings of four run, two earned, ball with five strikeouts.
The Panther duo of
Javier Valdes and
Jarrett Ford each reached base twice to lead the Panthers offensively.
Juan Teixeira also added a hit.
FAU homered in the second to end Allen's streak of 32.2 innings without surrendering an earned run. Valdes tied the game with one swing of the bat in the fourth on a homer to center. The first baseman's fifth home run of the season ties him with fellow Panther infielder
Austin Shenton for the team lead.
The Owls scored one in the fifth to reclaim the lead before platting two in the sixth and a trio of runs in the seventh to bring the score to 7-1. The final two frames were scoreless for each side as FAU took the 7-1 victory.
UP NEXT
Game two of the three game set is slatted for Saturday at 4:00 p.m. before the weekend finale at noon on Sunday.
