GAINESVILLE/RALEIGH (March 30, 2019) - The FIU track and field team concluded a split weekend at the Florida and Raleigh Relays, with a number of notable performances at two of the more high-profile meets in the nation this weekend, highlighted by a second-place performance from
Clarissa Cutliff in the high jump.
On Friday, Cutliff, an All-American coming off two consecutive victories to begin the outdoor season, tied for second place with WKU's Katherine Isenbarger with a jump of 1.76m. Cutliff cleared the first two heights of 1.71m and 1.76m on her first jump before the 1.81m height.
The Panthers saw two top-eight finishes in the discus, with Gabby Rains placing fourth with a mark of 48.93m, and Phontavia Sawyer earning a seventh-place mark with a throw of 47.03m.
Asha James, coming off a first-place finish in the javelin at the UCF Invite, placed sixth Friday in the event, with a throw of 48.8m. Freshman
Rayquel Berry earned a spot in the invitational section of long jump, placing ninth in her first Florida Relays.
Reed Service, who placed second and first in his first two meets of the outdoor season in the long jump, placed 10th Friday with a mark of 7.15m.
In Raleigh,
Rahel Gerbretsadik and
Jessica Gray competed in the 1500m - for Gray, it was her first collegiate 1500m race.
Sherilene Gelderblom and
Anais Da Silva ran the 5000m.
On Saturday in Gainesville,
Terrisa Russell, participating in the invitational section, placed eighth in the hammer with a throw of 59.81m.
Kenflore Atilus placed 10th in the high jump, with a mark of of 1.70m.
Queshun Watson-Riggins competed in the triple jump, finishing close to a personal best with a jump of 14.75m, his best of the outdoor season.
Meanwhile, in Raleigh, the Panthers saw a number of mid-distance and distance athletes compete.
Daira Deicmane ran a personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:13.07, an improvement from her time at UCF a week ago. FIU also competed in the 4x800, with
Sabrina Quijano,
Sydne Grier,
Jessica Gray, and
Mackenzie Mayers teaming up to run 9:35.84 for 11th place.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will be off for a week before heading to Coral Gables for the second time this season to compete in the Hurricane Alumni Invitational April 12-13. The meet will broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
