MIAMI (March 8, 2019) – Behind a brilliant pitching performance from
Logan Allen and an
Adan Fernandez solo homer, the FIU Baseball team downed Seton Hall 1-0 to win the series opener on Friday night at FIU Baseball Stadium.
Allen picked up his second win of the season after going seven scoreless innings of one-hit, 11 strikeout ball. Blake Espinal was handed the loss.
Allen, a sophomore, has struck out double-digits batters in three of his four starts this season. The Deltona, Fla., native faced the minimum through six and two-third innings including striking out five straight Pirates between the third and fifth inning.
The lone run of the evening came in the sixth inning when
Adan Fernandez got a hold of one that skied over the right field wall for a home run.
Lorenzo Hampton, Jr. singled in the very next at-bat to extend his hit streak to five games.
Jan Figueroa preserved the win for FIU going two scoreless innings of one-hit ball for his first career save.
