HOUSTON (April 17, 2019) – The FIU women's tennis team will compete in the 2019 Air Force Reserve Conference USA Women's Tennis Championships. With the first-round beginning on Thursday, April 18, the fourth-seeded Panthers are set to take on 13th-seeded UTEP at 1 p.m. ET. 

The defending champion Panthers (10-7, 4-1 C-USA) head into Thursday's matchup following a tough 4-0 loss to Rice on April 7th that snapped the Panthers' undefeated league record. The Miners (7-13, 1-1 C-USA) enter sporting a three-game win streak and look to pick up their first C-USA Championship win since 2009. 

FIU is one of 12 teams playing in first-round matches with 14 teams in total scheduled to participate in the C-USA Championships. The four-day event, hosted by Rice at the George R. Brown Tennis Center, opens with six matches on Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. ET. Old Dominion and Rice, who secured the No. 1 and 2 seeds, respectively, enter the championship with first-round byes.

The winner of the FIU-UTEP match will advance to the quarterfinals which is scheduled for Friday, April 19, at 3 p.m. and will face the winner of the North Texas vs. UAB first-round match up.

LAST TIME OUT
The Panthers dropped two-straight matches in Houston, Texas. On Saturday, April 6 FIU fell 4-3 to the No. 47 USF Bulls before dropping a tough 4-0 loss on Sunday, April 7 to conference opponent, Rice.
