Panthers Pounce on Blue Raider Pitching to Take Series

FIU scores nine runs in first three innings to rock Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tennessee (May 12, 2019) – The FIU baseball team was all business on Sunday, as the Panthers pounced on Middle Tennessee to win 10-6 and take the series over the Blue Raiders.

The Panthers scored nine runs in the first three innings, as FIU kept MT calling the bullpen all afternoon long. With the win, FIU improves to 22-29 overall and 11-16 in C-USA action, while MT falls to 18-33 and 11-16 in conference play.

Freshman Franco Aleman earned the victory after going six innings and allowing four runs on the day. MT's Carson Lester was dealt the loss, facing four batters and allowing four runs.

At the plate, Logan Allen homered in his second-straight game as he lifted one in the third inning. Allen finished the game with three hits, going 3-for-4 and earning a pair of RBIs. Jose Garcia raked in two RBIs of his own on 2-of-4 hitting on the day. Kaeber Rog smashed his first career homer in the ninth inning to push the lead to 10-4 at the time.

FIU jumped all over Lester to begin the game, as the Blue Raider pitcher was pulled before even recording an out. Garcia's base knock kicked off the scoring, as his two-run single brought home Derek Cartaya and Jarrett Ford. Lorenzo Hampton, Jr. brought home the next run after a ground out, before a double steal allowed Javier Valdes to swipe home and make it 4-0 after the top half of the first. MT led off the home half of the first with a homer to cut the lead to 4-1, but the Panthers scored two more in the second frame to extend the lead to 6-1.

After a three-run inning by the home team, a two-run homer from Allen and an RBI double from Chris Williams made the score 9-4 after three innings. The score would remain at 9-4 until the ninth inning, when Rog hit his first career homer to make it 10-4. The Blue Raiders scored a pair in the bottom of the ninth, but the damage was too much to overcome as the Panthers picked up a 10-6 victory and with it the series win.
