Three Panthers Named to All-Conference USA Squads

Allen, Shenton and Ford named All-CUSA

DALLAS (May 21, 2019) – The Conference USA league office announced its yearly baseball all-conference teams on Tuesday. FIU was represented by Logan Allen (First Team), Austin Shenton (Second Team) and Jarrett Ford (All-Freshman Team) after the trio's outstanding year on the diamond.

Allen, who was named as a utility player on the first team, built on his Freshman All-American campaign last season by leading all of C-USA with 120 Ks in 84 innings pitched for a 12.86 Ks-per-9 innings ratio to place top 15 in the nation in that category. His pitching prowess was on display when the Deltona, Florida, native went 32.2 innings without surrendering an earned run to start league play.

The lefty went 4-6 on the mound with a 3.11 ERA and held opposing batters to a .231 average while winning three C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors. Allen's three weekly honors as a pitcher were tied for the most in the league in 2019. At the plate Allen was also a force, after batting .276 with three homers and five RBIs.

Shenton led the Panther offensive attack, with a stat line of .330, seven home runs and 47 RBIs. The junior third baseman led the Blue & Gold in batting average (.330), hits (65), RBIs (47), doubles (11), triples (2), total bases (101) and walks (28).

The Bellingham, Washington, native finished the season by reaching base in each of the final 29 games despite having his 22-game hit streak ended on May 14 against Stetson. Shenton's 22-game streak is currently tied for the four-longest hitting streak in the country this season.

Ford exploded on the college scene with a five-hit, five-RBI opening weekend against Stony Brook and has since earned a .277 batting average with a .357 OB%. The Decatur, Georgia, native started 38 games at center field and scored 35 runs to tie for the team lead.

The speedy freshman was also a menace on the base paths, after swiping 17 bags including five against nationally ranked Texas Tech on May 7 to tie a program record for most stolen bases in a single game. Ford's 17 stolen bases ranked as the sixth most in the conference and the most by a Panther rookie since Dennis Diaz stole 29 as a freshman in 2002.

UP NEXT
A number of Panthers await to see where their names will be called in this year's MLB Draft. It all starts on June 3rd with the first two rounds being televised on MLB Network before the rest of the draft going through June 4-5.
