Baseball Cruises Past Florida Atlantic, 9-1

Panthers limited the Owls to just three hits

MIAMI – FIU's baseball program secured a 9-1 victory over the Florida Atlantic Owls Tuesday evening at FIU Baseball Stadium in midweek action.

FIU (9-20) turned in a dominant performance on the mound, limiting Florida Atlantic to just three hits and one run while combining seven pitchers in the effort.

The Panthers broke through in the fourth inning as Aidan Cohall delivered a two-run double—his team-leading 14th of the season—scoring Tracen Cameron and Andrew Ildefonso to take a 2-0 lead.

Florida Atlantic trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the fifth on a passed ball, but FIU responded in the bottom half. Following a Samuel Fischer walk and an Ildefonso single, Cole Cleveland drove a ball into left-center to plate two runs and extend the lead to 4-1.

FIU put the game out of reach in the seventh with a five-run inning. With the bases loaded, Cooper Rasmussen drew a walk to bring in a run before Cleveland added a sacrifice fly to score Adonys Velez. Hector Candelas followed with a two-run single, and Mario Trivella capped the frame with an RBI single to left, pushing the advantage to 9-1.

On the mound, Matthew DelVecchio made his FIU debut, tossing two scoreless innings with one strikeout. Cooper Foster and Jarek Woodward each worked scoreless frames, while Quin McManmon also saw action in relief. Jordan Vargas added 1.2 innings with a strikeout, and Mason Koczwara earned his first win of the season with two no-hit innings. Bryce Turner closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.

Offensively, FIU recorded nine hits, with multi-hit performances from Fischer and Trivella. Fischer added a walk to reach base three times, while Ildefonso reached twice with a single and a hit-by-pitch. Rasmussen extended his on-base streak to 14 games, and Cleveland drove in a team-high three RBI. Enrique Alvarez Jr. and Hector Candelas also contributed a hit in the win.
