Baseball Welcomes Louisiana Tech for Key CUSA Series

Panthers come off a 9-1 win over Florida Atlantic Tuesday evening

MIAMI – FIU's baseball program is set to host the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs for a pivotal Conference USA (CUSA) series at FIU Baseball Stadium.

FIU (9-20, 1-8 CUSA) looks to build momentum in conference play after a 9-1 midweek victory over Florida Atlantic on Tuesday. The Panthers limited the Owls to just three hits and one run, while the offense produced nine hits, highlighted by a five-run seventh inning to secure the win.
 
FIU returns to CUSA action following a road sweep at Liberty last weekend. In their last home conference series, the Panthers faced Sam Houston, earning a 12-11 victory on Saturday, March 21, on a walk-off grand slam from Mario Trivella.
 
Offensively, FIU has totaled 224 hits, including 33 home runs—ranking fifth in CUSA—while driving in 155 RBI.
 
Cooper Rasmussen leads the offense with a team-best .316 batting average in 23 games, along with seven home runs (second on the team) and 13 RBI. He is currently on a 14-game on-base streak, recording 18 hits, five home runs, and eight RBI during that stretch.
 
Andrew Ildefonso has started all 29 games, leading the team with 31 hits while ranking second in RBI (20) and adding eight doubles. He reached base twice against Florida Atlantic with a single and a hit-by-pitch.
 
Samuel Fischer has been a consistent on-base presence, posting an .880 OPS while appearing in all 29 games. He leads the team with 24 walks and 11 hit-by-pitches, which ranks fourth in the conference. Fischer reached base three times Tuesday with two hits and a walk.
 
Aidan Cohall leads the team with 14 doubles, which is tied for first in CUSA and ranks third nationally. He added a two-run double in the win over Florida Atlantic.
 
Mario Trivella paces the team in power with eight home runs and 26 RBI, both team highs, while his home run total ranks fourth in CUSA. He recorded a two-hit performance with an RBI against Florida Atlantic and has appeared in 28 of FIU's 29 games this season.
 
Cole Cleveland showcased his power at Liberty with a home run and reached base five times over the weekend. He followed that with a two-on-base, three-RBI performance against Florida Atlantic, including a two-run single and a sacrifice fly. Cleveland has totaled 12 RBI along with five doubles, one triple, and two home runs. Luca Reyes is tied for second on the team with 20 RBI and has appeared in 27 games this season.
 
On the mound, FIU has logged 250.2 innings with 231 strikeouts, ranking eighth in CUSA. Preston Prince made his fourth start of the season on March 27 at Liberty, striking out a career-high seven batters over a career-best five innings.
 
Tyrus Riley owns a 2.75 ERA across 19.2 innings with 21 strikeouts, while Julian Mlodzinski leads the team with 31 innings pitched. Enrique Sierra turned in a career-high 3.1 innings in his start at Liberty.
 
In Tuesday's win over Florida Atlantic, FIU used seven pitchers. Mason Koczwara earned his first win of the season with two scoreless innings, while Bryce Turner tossed a scoreless ninth. Matthew DelVecchio made his FIU debut with two scoreless innings, and Jordan Vargas added 1.2 scoreless frames.

HISTORY WITH LOUISIANA TECH
This weekend marks the 45th, 46th, and 47th all-time meetings between the programs, with Louisiana Tech holding a 24-20 advantage in a series that dates back to 1999.
 
In the most recent meeting in Ruston, Louisiana, FIU dropped both contests. However, in 2024, the Panthers hosted the Bulldogs in Miami and took two of three in the series.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Louisiana Tech enters with a 15-15 overall record, including a 4-5 mark in CUSA play. The Bulldogs have dropped seven straight games, including series losses at New Mexico State and against Jacksonville State.
 
Offensively, Trey Hawsey leads the team with 10 home runs and 27 RBI, with his home run total tied for second in the conference, along with 35 hits. Colby Lunsford has recorded 10 doubles, nine home runs, and 25 RBI, while Sebastian Mexico has driven in 16 runs with nine doubles. Cade Patterson leads the team with 30 RBI.
 
On the mound, Declan Dahl leads the team in innings pitched (37) and strikeouts (41) across seven starts. Hudson Rowan has also made seven starts, posting a 4.32 ERA with 28 strikeouts. In the bullpen, Riley Fisher has a team-high four saves in 16.1 innings, while Brooks Roberson owns a 2.19 ERA in five starts. Thomas Allen has appeared in nine games with a 4.30 ERA this season.
