MIAMI (Aug. 16, 2019) – With volleyball season just around the corner, FIU Head Coach
Rita Buck-Crockett announced Friday that
Hunter Porter has been named an assistant volleyball coach for the Panthers.
"I am very excited about the addition of
Hunter Porter," Buck-Crockett said. "I feel she will bring great energy to the staff. Hunter comes from a volleyball family and knows the game very well. I look forward to her helping this program achieve our goal of conference champions for years to come."
Prior to FIU, Porter was at Iowa Lakes Community College, where she was the head coach for the Lakers' women's volleyball team for two seasons. The Texas native also spent time with Texas Advantage Volleyball North where she oversaw the club and coached athletes from ages 12-18. Porter brings with her a diverse background having excelled in different industries outside of coaching volleyball as well.
Porter attended and played volleyball at NCAA Division II, Emporia State University (ESU) in Emporia, Kansas for two seasons. While at ESU, she was named to the Commissioners Honor-Roll in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 academic years. After her two seasons at ESU, Hunter transferred to Midwestern State University (MSU) in Wichita Falls, Texas and was a redshirt for the 2013-2014 season.
During her 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 seasons at MSU, she was the starting outside hitter, team captain and was named to the Commissioner's Honor-Roll. While at MSU, Hunter also served on the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) leadership board. In her two seasons with the Mustangs, Porter appeared in 52 matches with 40 starts at outside hitter. She was also second on the team with 253 kills and 2.30 kills per set during her senior season. In her first season at MSU she notched the only double-double of the season with 10 kills to go along with a campaign-best 13 digs.
Porter received her bachelor's degree in 2016 from MSU in mass communications in 2016. She graduated with Cum Laude honors.
The Blue & Gold will open the 2019 season on the road on Aug. 30 at Indiana, before returning home on Sept. 5-6 to host Panther Fest.
