MIAMI (Aug. 18, 2019) - The FIU volleyball team held a special version of "Chopped" on Sunday afternoon as the Panthers prepare for another season on the court.
The student-athletes were split into groups and given ingredients that any typical college student would have access to, which the Panthers turned into delicious dishes. Participants were also given a limited amount of time to create different meals, and were judged on creativity, presentation, taste, and quality.
"I had the best time getting to cook with some of my favorite teammates,"
Lina Bernier said. "My group really flowed well and they were just magnificent."
Bernier's group of
Sophia Brandstetter,
Abbie Hughes and
Fiorella Murillo were crowned winners by Sunday's guest judges. One of the guest judges on hand happened to be Executive Director of Sports and Entertainment
Pete Garcia.
"I would say this was an awesome and amazing event," Garcia said. "Not only are they great athletes and terrific students, but they're actually really good chefs as well."
The Panthers will open the 2019 season on the road on Aug. 30 at Indiana, before returning home on Sept. 5-6 to host Panther Fest.
