BLOOMINGTON, Indiana (Aug. 30, 2019) - Despite taking the opening set over Indiana, the FIU volleyball team was unable to carry momentum for the rest of the afternoon as the Panthers dropped a pair of tough matches to the Hoosiers and Santa Clara.
FIU fell 3-1 to host Indiana (24-26, 14-25, 12-25, 25-16) before dropping a 3-0 match to Santa Clara (14-25, 20-25, 14-25) to cap the day.
FIU will close out the Indiana Invitational on Saturday, as the Panthers face UT Martin at 3:00 p.m.
Jovana Vukcevic and
Sidney Henderson led the Panthers on the day with 13.5 points each. Vukcevic posted 13 kills on the afternoon, while Henderson earned 12.
Abbie Hughes had an impressive outing after earning a team-high 48 assists and 11 digs. Of Hughes' 48 assists, 31 came against Indiana. At the net,
Myrthe Maring collected six blocks to lead the Blue & Gold in that category.
UP NEXT
After Saturday's match against UT Martin, FIU will return home next weekend to host Panther Fest on Sept. 5-6. First match will be against Stetson on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
