JACKSONVILLE (Sept. 13, 2019) - The FIU volleyball team earned a pair of wins on Friday night to kick off the River City Tournament, as the Panthers improved to 4-3 on the year.
FIU downed LIU-Brooklyn in three sets (25-22, 25-21, 25-17)., while defeating Jacksonville in four sets (25-18, 24-26, 25-15, 25-19).
FIU kicked off the day with a three-set sweep over LIU-Brooklyn, continuing the Panthers' dominate stretch as of late.
Gina Lipscomb led the way with a double-double after collecting 18 kills and 10 digs, while
Fiorella Murillo also posted a double-double after she earned 16 kills and 10 digs as well. Reining C-USA Setter of the Week
Abbie Hughes posted a season-high 47 assists to aid the offensive attack.
The Panthers downed Jacksonville in four sets, after picking up the first two before taking the fourth set to cap the day undefeated. Hughes earned a triple-double to lead the Panthers after pouring in 45 assists, 12 kills and 11 digs.
