NORFOLK, Virginia (Jan. 23, 2020) – The FIU men's basketball team battled Old Dominion in a Conference USA contest at Chartway Arena on Thursday night. The Panthers topped the Monarchs 83-80 for their first ever win at ODU.
With the win, FIU moved to 14-6 for the season and 5-2 against conference opponents. Old Dominion dropped to 7-13 overall and 3-4 against C-USA teams.
The Panthers began the contest shooting 37.5% from the field and led the ODU 39-35 at the half. Trejon Jacob led the Panthers with eight points and five rebounds in the opening stanza. Osasumwen Osaghae and Devon Andrews followed closely behind with seven points each.
Coming out of the locker room, the Panthers kept their momentum going, shooting 51.9% from the field and 53.8% from behind the arc. Old Dominion outscored the Panthers 45-44 in the second half, but FIU held on for the 83-80 victory.
Jacob recorded his 1,000th career point during the outing, and the senior finished the contest with 12 points. Eric Lovett led all players with 21 points in the victory, and the junior went 6-9 from three in the game. Osaghae posted 11 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double.
