MIAMI (Jan. 30, 2020) – The FIU men's basketball team faced Conference USA foe Marshall at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Thursday night. The Panthers fell to the Thundering Herd 84-74, snapping the team's home winning streak.
With the loss, FIU moved to 14-8 overall and 5-4 in conference play. MU went to 10-12 for the year and 4-5 against league opponents with the victory.
The Panthers began the game shooting 34.2% from the field and 29.4 from behind the arc. The FIU squad held the opposition 1-15 from behind the three-point line in the first half, and the Panthers held a 39-38 lead when the teams went to the locker room. Trejon Jacob opened the contest with 13 points to lead all players, while Osasumwen Osaghae tallied three blocks during the first 20 minutes.
Coming out of the break, FIU struggled when the team allowed the Herd to shoot 66.7% from the field in the second half. The Panthers were outscored 46-35 in the final period and dropped the conference battle 84-74 for the squad's first loss at home the season.
The team closed out the loss shooting 38.2% from the field and 32% from beyond the three-point line. Individually, Jacob finished the contest with 23 points and six rebounds. Osaghae posted a double-double, scoring 13 points and collecting 11 rebounds.
