DENTON, Texas (Jan. 9, 2020) – The FIU men's basketball team faced North Texas in a Conference USA clash at The Super Pit on Thursday night. The Panthers fell to the Mean Green 74-56, dropping its first conference game this season.

With the loss, FIU goes to 11-5 for the season and 2-1 in C-USA play. UNT moves to 8-8 with the win and 2-1 in league play.

The Panthers started the game shooting 42.3% from the field and 40% from behind the arc. However, the FIU squad allowed the opposition to go 14-32 from the field to open the game, and the Panthers trailed the Mean Green 38-26 at the break. Devon Andrews posted a team-best nine points in the first half, while Osasumwen Osaghae logged five rebounds during the opening stanza.

Coming out of the locker room, the Panthers continued to struggle, shooting 26% from the field and 27.3% from three. The Mean Green continued to outshoot FIU, going 50% in the second half. The deficit grew and proved to be too much for the Panthers as the team fell 74-56.

Trejon Jacob led FIU in the points, scoring 13 in the loss. Osaghae finished with 11 points while Andrews posted 10 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

The Panthers remain in the Lone Star State as the team heads to Houston to face the Owls of Rice on Saturday, Jan 11. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. ET.

ALUMNI GAME
The FIU men's basketball program welcomes back its alumni to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Saturday, Jan 18, for the Panthers' game against Middle Tennessee. Tipoff from the Conference USA clash is set for 7 p.m. ET. The 2019-2020 campaign marks the 25th anniversary of the banner season, which resulted in the program's first NCAA appearance.
