MIAMI (Nov. 13, 2020) – FIU football fell to FAU on Friday night, as the Owls took a 38-19 decision in the Shula Bowl.
D'vonte Price earned a career-high 179 yards on the ground, while scoring once. Defensively,
Richard Dames tallied nine total tackles, while
Jason Mercier contributed eight of his own.
Noah Curtis scooped up a fumble for the Panthers' lone turnover of the game.
After the Owls took off for a 10-0 lead, the Panthers burst onto the scoreboard early in the second period following an explosive 77-yard touchdown run by Price. FIU was able to even the score at 10-10 off the leg of
Chase Gabriel on the Panthers' next possession, but the Owls scored 14 unanswered points to take a 24-10 lead into the locker room.
The Blue & Gold trimmed the lead to 24-13 in the fourth quarter when Gabriel chipped in a 21-yarder, but the Panthers' attempt to claw back into the game was stifled by two FAU touchdowns in the final period. Tight end
Rivaldo Fairweather added an impressive score before the final whistle, as the freshman hauled in a pass from
Max Bortenschlager for a 67-yard run-after-catch into the endzone.
