FORT MYERS, Florida (Nov. 21, 2019) - The FIU swimming and diving team wrapped up the third day of the FGCU Invitational on Saturday, securing a second-place finish in the contest.
"I'm very proud of this group this weekend," said Head Coach
Randy Horner. "They were a solid team for three-straight days."
FGCU finished in first place for the meet, with Georgia Southern slotting in at third.
Day three consisted of six final events, with only the swimmers competing. The divers rested on Saturday as their portion of the competition wrapped up the day prior.
Ellie Maradyn got the final sessions started by taking second place in the 1650-yard freestyle A Final with a time of 17:06.85, which was a personal-best for the freshman swimmer.
Kelsie Campbell produced a lifetime best in the 200-yard backstroke A Final, clocking in at 2:00.09. The Panthers secured a sweep in the event, as
Julia Miranda (1:59.34),
Michaela Trnkova (1:59.68), and
Kelsie Campbell took spots one, two, and three, respectively.
In the 100-yard freestyle A Final,
Eriana Temperino swam to a second-place finish with a time of 51.77.
Delaine Goll locked in a third-place finish for FIU in the 200-yard breast stroke A Final with a time of 2:16.48, while Maradyn came in eighth with a time of 2:21.89. Maradyn's mark in the 200 breast ranked as a personal-best.
Emily Cordovi clocked in at 2:04.85 in the 200-yard butterfly A Final, which was good for a third-place finish.
The final event of the night was the 400-yard freestyle relay, which saw FIU take second and third place. Miranda, Campbell, Fodor, and Temperino made up the second place squad, while
Delaney Biro, Trnkova, Cordovi, and Goll came in third.
Miranda's time in the lead-off leg of the 400 free relay marked a personal best for the Panther, who logged a mark of 51.00 for the first 100-yards.
With no meets scheduled for the remainder of the Fall semester, the Panthers will now travel back home for a long break until they return to competition during the spring.
