MIAMI (Nov. 25, 2020) – The FIU men's basketball team opened the 2020-21 season by hosting Flagler College at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Wednesday night. The Panthers took down the Saints 85-81 for the team's first victory of the season.
With the win, FIU moves to 1-0 for the year, while the game counted as an exhibition for Flagler.
In the opening stanza, FIU went 12-35 from the field and 5-19 from beyond-the-arc to lead the Saints 37-33. The Panther bench outscored the Saints 13-4, but Flagler College held the 20-14 advantage in the paint.
Radshad Davis led the squad with seven points while
Eric Lovett and
Antonio Daye, Jr. had six points apiece.
During the second half, the Panthers shot 40% but allowed Flagler to go 48.6% from the floor and 30.8% from three. Daye, Jr.'s 18 points in the second half provided a much-needed spark for the Panthers, helping the squad take down the Saints 85-81.
Individually, Daye Jr. led all FIU players with a career-best 24 points. Davis posted 15 points and three steals for his first game in a Panthers jersey, while Brewer and Lovett tallied 10 points in the victory.
The Panthers host the Saints for a second contest on Friday, Nov. 27. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 pm ET.
