MIAMI (Dec. 14, 2020) – The FIU women's basketball team prevailed 96-57 over Florida Memorial in Monday night's home opener, with the Panthers scoring the most points in a game since the 2013-14 season.
With the win, FIU improves to 2-1 after back-to-back victories. The Panthers last scored 96 points against Southern Miss on Feb. 16, 2014. Additionally, the 39-point margin of victory was FIU's largest since joining the C-USA in 2013-14.
Led by
Jiselle Thomas' 15 points, FIU fielded a balanced attack with six Panthers scoring in double figures.
Emerald Ekpiteta pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds and scored 10 points for her first double-double as a Panther.
Alexus Wykoff (13),
Diene Diane (12),
Raquel Ferrer-Bernad (11) and
Alma Danielsson (10) all scored in double figures to round out the stat sheet. All 12 Panthers earned playing time on Monday night as well, with the FIU bench outscoring FMU's bench 49-8.
The Panthers played their best basketball in the second and fourth quarters, outpacing FMU 53-18 to close out both halves. FIU also held the Lions scoreless for the final 2:30 of regulation.
FIU's longest homestand of the season continues on Wednesday, Dec. 16, against Flagler College. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be streamed on CUSA.tv.
